Graduate Spotlight – Al-Nisa Reid-Jenkins
Take us on a journey, and tell us how you ended up being a CEO of your own CWEP business!
“Throughout my professional career, I directed, coordinated and executed annual conferences, workshops and quarterly events for large corporate entities and worked as a project management professional in the areas of hospitality, events production, logistics, marketing, negotiating and budgeting, managing C-Suite, celebrity guests, as well as, guest experience. I always had a love and passion for design and event planning but, never thought to do it for myself. For years, close friends and family would praise me for my dedication to making others’ visions and dreams become reality and would challenge me to start my own business…I then began to have dreams and visions of me owning my very own business. “
“I decided to create a credible entrepreneurial platform where I could share my distinct gift of design and planning with clients that envision signature events.“
What was the most challenging part? Most rewarding?
“Because of fear and self-doubt, it “crippled” me. And, for some time I did not pursue the challenge.. to walk out my dreams. In early 2015, my best friend…now husband, pushed me to start ARJ Signature Design & Event Planning Inc. With the experience, love, passion, dreams, visions and a company name…I decided to create a credible entrepreneurial platform where I could share my distinct gift of design and planning with clients that envision signature events. Because I did not want ARJ to be looked at as just another local event planning company or “hobby” I wanted badly to become certified. I searched the internet and found LWPI…”
How did taking the seminar impact you, and would you recommend it to others?
“I instantly registered for the 12-week CWEP course at Lehman College with Instructor and Mentor, Jacqueline Vasquez. This course was the guide to helping my dream become reality!! I gained so much knowledge and still apply what I’ve learned into my business! I met some of the most amazing women in my class, as well as, previous graduates who have successful businesses as well! I would recommend this program to those who are looking to one day, own their own business. Since my completion of the course, I have gotten many gigs and have made many connections with other event planners, designers and vendors. I even had the opportunity to intern with the one and only, David Tutera at his “Your Wedding Experience” Expo Tour in Atlanta, GA.”
